A Los Angeles judge has dismissed Dr. Charles Sophy’s request for a permanent restraining order against Dr. Dre, concluding that the rapper’s aggressive texts did not constitute credible threats. Dr. Sophy, a former therapist for Dre and his ex-wife Nicole, testified in person, while Dre joined the hearing via Zoom.

Dr. Sophy initially sought protection from Dre after receiving hostile texts, including messages like “You’re a piece of s***.” Sophy argued that Dre’s texts and alleged past behavior made him feel unsafe. Dre admitted to sending the texts, though he argued that they were not violent threats, but rather expressions of anger.

According to TMZ, the court ultimately sided with Dre, terminating the temporary restraining order that had required him to stay 100 yards away from Sophy. The initial conflict reportedly stems from Dre’s belief that Sophy acted unethically by allegedly turning his children against him during his divorce.

Sophy also addressed Dre’s accusations of racism during the hearing, defending his long-standing work as a child welfare advocate, where he has worked with children of all backgrounds.
