Lionsgate’s highly anticipated Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, has officially been delayed. Originally set for an April 18, 2025 release, the film will now hit theaters on October 3, 2025, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, Michael stars Jaafar Jackson, the nephew of the King of Pop, in the lead role, with a cast that includes Nia Long, Laura Harrier, Miles Teller, and Colman Domingo.

While Lionsgate hasn’t provided specific reasons for the delay, the studio appears to be positioning Michael for a prime fall release. The October timeframe often proves advantageous for awards season contenders, suggesting Lionsgate may be aiming to maximize the biopic’s impact. Antoine Fuqua, known for his dedication to detailed storytelling, has expressed his excitement to bring Jackson’s life story to the big screen, acknowledging the complexity and depth of Michael Jackson’s journey.

Fuqua, who is currently editing the film, previously spoke about his motivation behind the project, saying, “Michael was a big part of my life growing up… an incredible artist — but he was a human being, and we’re exploring that.” To capture the full scope of Jackson’s life and career, the film will feature 30 of Jackson’s songs and promises a detailed, lengthy runtime.

As fans await more updates on Michael, including potential sneak peeks as the release date nears, anticipation is building for a cinematic exploration of Jackson’s life that honors his artistry and legacy.
