A frightening moment unfolded on the NHL ice Tuesday night as St. Louis Blues forward Dylan Holloway was rushed to the hospital after being struck in the neck by a puck.
The incident happened late in the first period of the game between the Blues and the Tampa Bay Lightning. Holloway was down near his goal when he stepped into the path of a wrist shot by Nick Paul. The puck hit him squarely between his collarbone and jaw, but initially, Holloway seemed unfazed, skating down the ice and nearly scoring a goal.
However, upon returning to the bench, it became apparent that something was seriously wrong. Medics rushed to assist him, holding his head up before laying him on a stretcher and transporting him to a nearby medical facility.
The Blues provided a relieving update shortly after, confirming that Holloway was “alert and in stable condition.” Head coach Drew Bannister shared more on the emotional toll of the situation, saying, “From what we’ve heard, he’s doing well… The only way I can put it to you guys is if you’re at work, you get a call that one of your family members is sick and rushed to the hospital. Holly is a family member. That was tough.”
Despite the unsettling moment, the Blues managed to pull off a 3-2 victory. The team has continued to update fans on Holloway’s condition through their X/Twitter account throughout Wednesday morning.
