Kamala Harris has officially conceded the 2024 presidential race to President-elect Donald Trump. The 60-year-old Vice President reportedly made the call to the 78-year-old Trump, confirming her concession, as a senior aide to the Harris campaign told People.
During the phone conversation, Harris emphasized “the importance of a peaceful transition of power between the administrations and expressed hope that he can be a president for all Americans,” the source revealed.
Trump spokesman Steven Cheung acknowledged the exchange, adding, “President Trump acknowledged Vice President Harris on her strength, professionalism, and tenacity throughout the campaign, and both leaders agreed on the importance of unifying the country.”
Harris is set to publicly address the nation about her defeat at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday, delivering her remarks at Howard University in Washington, D.C., where she completed her undergraduate studies.
Harris initially launched her campaign on July 21, after President Joe Biden decided to step out of the race, endorsing her as his successor. In her bid for the presidency, she selected Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate.
Stay tuned as reactions pour in from Hollywood and across the nation regarding Trump’s victory and Harris’ concession.
