Disney is continuing its successful trend of live-action adaptations with Lilo & Stitch, one of the most highly anticipated projects in the lineup.

Fans were treated to their first glimpse of the CGI Stitch at this year’s D23 event, but the recent D23 Brazil provided an even closer look at everyone’s favorite blue alien. In the newly revealed image, Stitch is adorably perched in Lilo’s room with a lei around his neck, showcasing finely detailed fur and the signature shades of blue that fans remember from the original animated film.

The scene is packed with nostalgic details, with various items scattered throughout the room adding to the authentic feel. But it’s Stitch who truly steals the show, faithfully adapted to bridge the gap between animation and live action.

Fans of the original movie will be thrilled to hear that Chris Sanders, the co-creator of the franchise, is returning to voice Stitch. Joining him in the cast are Maia Kealoha as Lilo, Sydney Agudong as Nani, Kaipo Dudoit as David, Courtney B. Vance as Cobra Bubbles, Billy Magnussen as Agent Pleakley, and Zach Galifianakis as Dr. Jumba. Tia Carrere, who voiced Nani in the original film, is set to return in a new role as Mrs. Kekoa.

In an interview with GamesRadar, Billy Magnussen shared his excitement for the project, emphasizing that comparing artistic pieces is unnecessary.

“I don’t think you can compare pieces of art to each other,” Magnussen said. “I adored working with everyone in this. Rideback was the producing house making this film, and I did Aladdin with them. Again, it’s a story about connection, and a kid trying to find a friend, and all you can do is approach a project like that with love. I am so grateful and honored to be a part of that project.”

Director Dean Fleischer Camp helms the movie, and Sanders spoke to Vulture about his early conversations with Camp that led to his involvement.

“I would say that I had a lovely conversation with director Dean Fleischer Camp very early, before they began shooting,” Sanders shared. “He gave me a call and asked if I wanted to return as the voice… He seemed to have a great enthusiasm for the project and seemed like a thoughtful guy… Had I not been deeply embroiled in The Wild Robot, I may have tried to fly out there and visit the set or something. But this was their baby.”

The live-action Lilo & Stitch is set to hit theaters on May 23, 2025, bringing back cherished characters and heartwarming memories for fans old and new.
