NFL star Nick Bosa, a defensive end for the San Francisco 49ers, made headlines for more than just his gameplay after an October 27 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys.
The 27-year-old player sparked controversy when he interrupted an on-field postgame interview and pointed to his “MAGA” hat — a nod to Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan — before walking away.
The move didn’t go unnoticed, and on Saturday (November 9), ESPN reported that the NFL has handed Bosa an $11,255 fine for making a political statement. According to league regulations, players are prohibited from wearing politically-charged attire on game day, which extends to all visible moments at the stadium, including postgame interactions broadcasted to a TV audience.
Earlier in the week, Bosa acknowledged his decision and anticipated potential consequences but remained unfazed. “I haven’t got one yet, but if it comes, it comes,” he said during a press meeting. “It was well worth it.”
While $11,000 is no small amount, Bosa, who is among the highest-paid NFL players this year, seemed unbothered by the financial penalty.
