Britney Spears is closing a significant chapter this week, as the pop icon will reportedly stop making child support payments to ex-husband Kevin Federline after nearly two decades. Sources told TMZ on Tuesday that Spears will send her final biweekly payment of $10,000 to the former backup dancer on Friday.

Federline previously received as much as $40,000 per month from Spears while their sons, Sean Preston and Jayden James, lived with him full-time in Hawaii. That amount was reduced to $20,000 after Sean Preston turned 18 last year. The exes, who split in 2007, share two sons: Sean Preston, who reached adulthood in 2022, and Jayden James, who turned 18 this past September.

Mark Vincent Kaplan, Federline’s long-standing attorney, explained to People that Jayden’s child support would extend until November, aligning with his high school graduation. “Under California law, child support jurisdiction continues until the minor child reaches the age of 18, or if upon their 18th birthday they have not yet graduated high school, it continues until they graduate high school, but in no event later than their 19th birthday,” Kaplan stated. He confirmed, “The child support in this case for Jayden is being paid consistent with that law. His graduation for high school will be in November.”

Amid this financial change, Spears and Jayden appear to be on a path toward rebuilding their relationship. Jayden, who moved to Hawaii with Federline and Sean Preston in August 2023, recently reunited with his mom in Los Angeles. An insider shared that the teen and the “Gimme More” singer have been spending quality time together. “Britney is thrilled to have her baby back. Everything is moving in the right direction,” another source revealed.

This heartwarming reunion follows a period of estrangement. In September 2022, Jayden spoke out about the challenges in their relationship, saying in an interview with ITV, “I think Mom has struggled giving us both attention and showing us equal love. I don’t think she showed enough to Preston, and I feel really bad for that. We’ve both been through so much pressure in the past that this is our safe place now, to process all the emotional trauma we’ve been through to heal, heal our mental state.” He expressed that rebuilding their bond would require “a lot of time and effort” and wished for his mother’s mental recovery.

Spears, in response, shared her sorrow through social media, expressing that she was “deeply” saddened by Jayden’s comments and hoped they could reconnect face-to-face. Encouraging signs emerged in August 2023, with Kaplan confirming to Page Six that the brothers had reached out to Spears before their move to Hawaii. The connection grew further when the boys spoke to their mom on Mother’s Day in June.

Despite Jayden’s recent visit to Los Angeles and time spent with Spears, Federline was taken aback by the news. “If there has been a reconciliation, it’s news to Kevin,” Kaplan told TMZ on Monday.

Reps for Spears and Federline did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
