“Euphoria” fans can breathe a sigh of relief as HBO/Max chief Casey Bloys reassured that Season 3 is still on track.
Speaking at an HBO/Max press event, Bloys confirmed that the long-awaited season is set to begin production in mid to late January 2025, marking almost three years since the Season 2 premiere.
“We are shooting ‘Euphoria,’” Bloys told reporters. “I think we have a start date, mid to late January. Nothing’s changed. Somebody said something online, and then this whole thing started. We are shooting the season. I have read the scripts. We’re happy. We’re moving ahead. All of the actors. Is the show.”
Despite Bloys’ confidence, fans have speculated about potential conflicts, given that several key cast members have recently signed on to high-profile projects. Zendaya, who stars as Rue and is an executive producer on the show, is set to appear in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, which begins shooting in early 2025. She could also return as MJ in “Spider-Man 4,” which is also scheduled for a 2025 shoot.
Additionally, Jacob Elordi, who plays Nate Jacobs, will star in Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of Wuthering Heights alongside Margot Robbie, also set to film in the U.K. in 2025.
Bloys addressed these concerns, emphasizing that the show’s production would proceed as planned despite the cast’s busy schedules. “I know the show gets a lot of attention now because, you know, it has created some genuine movie stars, and they have various projects that are working on, but we are shooting this season, so nothing has changed,” he said. Season 3 is expected to have eight episodes.
The core cast of Euphoria includes Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Hunter Schafer, Storm Reid, Alexa Demie, and Eric Dane. The show suffered a tragic loss with the death of Angus Cloud, who played Fezco, in July 2023 at age 25. Additionally, Barbie Ferreira has confirmed she will not return for another season.
As previously reported, series creator Sam Levinson approached HBO with plans for Season 3, including a bold five-year time jump and potential storylines for Rue, such as her working as a private investigator. HBO opted to put the series on hold until it aligned more closely with the creative tone of the first two seasons.
Beyond its compelling storytelling, Euphoria has garnered significant acclaim and accolades for HBO, earning 25 Emmy nominations and nine wins, including two for Zendaya as Best Actress in a Drama and one for Colman Domingo as Best Guest Actor. Levinson’s directing also earned him a DGA award for the Season 2 episode “Stand Still Like the Hummingbird.”
Zendaya’s role as executive producer continues for Season 3, joined by Levinson, who also directs. The production team includes Ravi Nandan, Drake, Adel “Future” Nur, Will Greenfield, Ashley Levinson, Ron Leshem, Daphna Levin, and Hadas Mozes Lichtenstein. The series mourned the loss of executive producer Kevin Turen, who passed away at 44 in November 2023.
