Lady Gaga is stepping into the spooky world of the Addams Family, bringing her signature flair to the hit Netflix series Wednesday.
Deadline has confirmed that the “Die With a Smile” singer has joined the cast for the show’s highly anticipated second season.
Gaga has already started filming in Europe alongside fan favorites Jenna Ortega (Wednesday Addams), Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia Addams), Gwendoline Christie (Larissa Weems), Luis Guzmán (Gomez Addams), and Emma Myers (Enid Sinclair). While the exact details of Gaga’s role remain under wraps, the buzz around her addition has fans guessing—and hoping for a perfectly macabre character.
Jenna Ortega, who brought the stoic and mysterious Wednesday Addams to life in season one, has already dropped some hints about what role she envisions for the Joker: Folie à Deux star.
Speaking to Variety in January 2023, Ortega said, “I think Mrs. Thornhill and Wednesday had this weird mentor relationship or kind of understood each other in a certain way, so, if Lady Gaga were to be a part, I think it would have to be two monsters that understand each other.”
The connection between Gaga and the Wednesday universe isn’t entirely new. Following the release of season one, TikTok users created a viral trend using Gaga’s song “Bloody Mary” to mimic the now-famous dance scene from episode four. The trend caught Gaga’s attention, leading her to share her own version of the dance on social media.
For Ortega, this moment was particularly special. “A long time ago, I worked with a hairdresser that worked with Gaga,” Ortega told Variety. “I just had seen Gaga in concert a few years before. The hairdresser got Gaga to make me a video saying she heard I was a fan. Gaga made me a sweet video. I doubt she remembers. But to see her do that now…it’s one of those moments you realize life changes really fast.”
With Lady Gaga’s unique persona and larger-than-life presence, her addition to Wednesday is sure to bring even more intrigue and excitement to the series.
