Football fans and drama lovers, get ready to relive the excitement! The beloved NBC series Friday Night Lights is said to have a reboot in development, with Deadline reporting that the original creative team is behind the project.

Creator Pete Berg, showrunner Jason Katims, and executive producer Brian Grazer are reportedly working on a new iteration of the award-winning series. While the reboot is still in its early stages, fans can expect a fresh story set against the backdrop of high school football, staying true to the spirit of the original show that captivated viewers.

The original Friday Night Lights, based on H.G. Bissinger’s book and the 2004 film starring Tim McGraw, followed the trials and triumphs of the Dillon Panthers, a high school football team in rural west Texas. At its heart was Coach Eric Taylor, played by Kyle Chandler, whose powerful portrayal won him an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2011. Showrunner Jason Katims also took home an Emmy for Outstanding Writing that same year.

The series became a launchpad for numerous stars, including Connie Britton, Taylor Kinney, Minka Kelly, Adrianne Palicki, Jurnee Smollett, Michael B. Jordan, and Matt Lauria. While it’s unclear if any of the original cast members will be involved in the new series, the focus will be on introducing new characters and stories that capture the same passion and grit.
