Gabrielle Union is calling it quits on X/Twitter, joining a growing list of celebrities stepping away from the platform. In a heartfelt post on Friday, the actress announced her decision, citing recent and upcoming changes as her breaking point.

“There are pivotal moments in life when we must declare that enough is enough, and for me, today is that day,” Union shared with her followers. She expressed disappointment in X’s shift away from its original mission.

“Platforms like X were founded on authentic connections, true engagement and creative expression, all anchored in respect for user privacy and trust. Yet, with the recent and upcoming changes to the terms of service — and the return of volatile figures — I find myself at a crossroads, facing a direction I can no longer fully support.”

Union’s departure echoes those of other high-profile figures like Jamie Lee Curtis and Don Lemon, who have also deactivated their accounts amid X’s controversial updates and policy changes. Lemon, for example, pointed to the new terms of service that will require all disputes to be brought exclusively to conservative-leaning courts in Texas.

Union didn’t hold back her gratitude for the connections she’s made on the platform. “Thank you for the laughs, the insights and the endless support. I am not disappearing completely!” she reassured her fans. The actress highlighted her continued presence on other social media platforms, including Instagram, Threads, TikTok, BlueSky, Spill, and Facebook. “Let’s keep spreading love and light to one another in the ways that truly matter,” she wrote.

The move comes at a time when many prominent figures and organizations are distancing themselves from X. The Berlin Film Festival, NPR, and even luxury fashion brand Balenciaga have exited the platform due to concerns over its content moderation and a perceived rise in hate speech and disinformation following Elon Musk’s $44 billion acquisition in 2022.

Union’s exit, coupled with other celebrities jumping ship and BlueSky’s explosive growth to over 15 million users, signals a major shift in where stars and influencers are choosing to engage with their audiences. With trust in X diminishing, alternatives are becoming the go-to spaces for those prioritizing inclusivity and respect.
