Mike Tyson is keeping it real—and then some. Ahead of his highly-anticipated boxing showdown with Jake Paul, the 58-year-old boxing icon gave a jaw-dropping interview that left fans buzzing.
Chatting with 14-year-old reporter Jazlyn “Jazzy” Guerra on November 14, Tyson didn’t hold back when asked about the legacy he’d like to leave behind after his storied career.
“I don’t know, I don’t believe in the word ‘legacy,’” Tyson said, dropping truth bombs like only he can. “I just think that’s another word for ego. Legacy doesn’t mean nothing. It’s just some word everybody grabbed onto.”
But he didn’t stop there. Tyson doubled down with, “It means absolutely nothing to me. I’m just passing through. I’m going to die and it’s going to be over. Who cares about legacy after that?”
Clearly shocked but maintaining her cool, Jazzy let Tyson continue. “We’re nothing,” Tyson continued, unapologetically. “We’re just dead. We’re dust. We’re absolutely nothing. Our legacy is nothing.”
The boxing legend didn’t stop with the existential talk. He humorously mocked the idea of wanting to be remembered, saying, “Can you really imagine somebody saying, ‘I want my legacy to be this way?’ You’re dead! What’s the audacity to think, ‘I want people to think about me when I’m gone?’ Who the f— cares about me when I’m gone?”
Guerra responded with a simple “True,” and the internet couldn’t get enough. Comments poured in applauding Jazzy for her poise during Tyson’s intense monologue. One fan wrote, “Lol good job Jazzy for keepin it pushin & professional lil sis 😂,” while another said, “Bless young Jazzy. She’s going to be a master of human interaction before she gets a driver’s license.”
But for Tyson, it’s not just about deep talks and laughs. He’s getting ready to face Jake Paul in an eight-round fight at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, streaming live on Netflix this Friday at 8 p.m. ET.
Tyson made it clear he’s all business: “My own mother should be very careful if she has to get in the ring with me. When it’s over, it’s over. But while the process is going on, my intention is to hurt him.”
