RVD is widely regarded as one of the most skilled pro wrestlers in the history of the business but he obviously keeps track of other things that go on outside pro wrestling. That is precisely why he feels that Mike Tyson and Jake Paul’s fight might be a work.
Mike Tyson is scheduled to face Jake Paul tonight, November 15, 2024, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, in a highly anticipated boxing match. Tensions escalated during the weigh-in when Tyson slapped Paul after Paul stepped on his foot, adding extra drama to the match. Fans are eagerly awaiting the bout between the legendary boxer and the YouTube star-turned-fighter and it’s not hard to see why.
While speaking on his 1 of a Kind podcast, RVD believes the upcoming boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul is likely to be a work rather than a legitimate shoot fight.
Initially, he thought the fight might be real when it was first promoted months ago, viewing it as a legitimate contest. However, as more people suggested it would be a work, he began to reconsider his stance. Although he wasn’t fully convinced at first, seeing recent promos has shifted his perspective.
RVD pointed out moments like Tyson and Paul getting face-to-face and almost kissing, which has happened multiple times. These recurring playful interactions make it seem like they’re just having fun and are likely friends. Based on this, RVD doesn’t view the fight as a serious test of skill. While he expects it to be entertaining, he believes it’s unlikely to be a genuine shoot fight.
“I really don’t see it being a shoot. I can’t imagine it any other way now, though at first, I did. Initially, I looked at it as a shoot, especially months ago when they started promoting it. Back then, I thought it might be legit. But then people were like, ‘Come on, dude, you know it’s going to be a work.’
They didn’t completely convince me at first, but I guess they got me somewhat conflicted about my opinion. Now, after seeing some of the promos, my perspective has shifted. I need to watch more of them, but I’ve seen clips, like when Mike Tyson and Jake Paul get face-to-face and almost kiss. They’ve done that three or four times now. It’s like a recurring bit, and it makes me think they’re just having fun, that they’re really just friends.
That’s why I’ve changed my view. I don’t see this as a fight that’s going to be a true test of skill. I think they’ll do something interesting, but I don’t expect it to be a shoot.”
Ric Flair is also in Mike Tyson’s corner for his boxing match and the odds are favoring Jake Paul. Regardless, it remains to be seen who will walk out the victor when all is said and done, as fans are incredibly excited for the bout, regardless of whether it is a work or not in the end.
