Detroit native and rap legend Xzibit has hit another snag in his ongoing divorce battle.
Reports from The Jasmine Brand and In Touch Weekly reveal that his attorney, Maya Shulman, has stepped away from representing him in the proceedings due to what she described as an “irremediable breakdown” in their working relationship. “The attorney-client relationship prevents disclosure of the details of the breakdown,” Shulman reportedly said. “However, it can be disclosed due to a number of reasons […] Shulman can [no] longer continue to represent [Xzibit] and there is a balance due.”
Despite this setback, Xzibit has moved quickly to secure new legal counsel, retaining Roslyn Soudry to continue fighting for him in the case that has been dragging on since 2021, when his wife, Krista, filed for divorce.
Financial difficulties have been a recurring theme in the rapper’s divorce battle, with Xzibit alleging that his income took a significant hit. This context makes his recent hustle even more understandable.
Xzibit recently signed with Conor McGregor’s label, Greenback Records, and released a couple of tracks, including a part two single for “Been A Long Time” and the intense “Play This At My Funeral.” Fans can also look forward to his long-awaited album King Maker, set to drop under Greenback Records and marking his first album release since 2012’s Napalm.
It’s not clear how much of a financial boost this new record deal will give Xzibit, but it’s definitely a step in the right direction. For an artist who’s seen both highs and lows in his career, the potential success of King Maker could play a key role in helping him navigate his legal battles, especially if payment disputes with his former lawyer hint at deeper financial strains.
Through all this, one thing is clear: Xzibit is pushing forward with the tenacity that fans know and respect. Whether it’s late-night studio sessions or courtroom showdowns, he’s always committed to giving it his all.
