Sean “Diddy” Combs is under fire as federal prosecutors hit him with explosive new allegations in his ongoing sex-trafficking case.
The 55-year-old music mogul, currently held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, NY, is accused of trying to “corruptly influence” his trial by sidestepping jail regulations and “blackmailing victims.”
According to documents filed by the government on Friday and obtained by Page Six, Combs has been making unauthorized calls using the telephone accounts of “at least eight other inmates.” Prosecutors claim he’s paying these inmates through commissary deposits and payment apps to make these calls, allowing him to communicate with individuals not on his approved contact list.
The “Bad Boy for Life” rapper has allegedly instructed those on the other end of the line to initiate three-way calls — a move strictly prohibited by the Bureau of Prisons. Prosecutors argue, “This practice is also not authorized by BOP as it helps conceal the identities of the contacted individuals.”
The federal filing paints a picture of Combs as a man who has bent the rules from the moment he arrived at MDC. “The defendant’s repeated circumvention of BOP regulations—starting almost immediately after arriving at MDC—speaks volumes about his ability to comply with any conditions of release,” the document reads.
Prosecutors claim Combs has also been plotting his own PR strategy behind bars, using his influence to manipulate public perception. They pointed to a recent social media post during his 55th birthday as an example. “At the defendant’s carefully curated direction, the defendant’s children posted a video to their respective social media accounts showing the defendant’s children gathered to celebrate the defendant’s birthday,” the filing states. The move, they argue, was intended to sway potential jurors. “The defendant’s own words make clear that his intent is to improperly influence the jury pool in this criminal proceeding.”
The court documents further allege Combs plans to release anonymous information that would benefit his defense. Prosecutors go so far as to suggest that the “Last Night” artist’s ultimate goal is to silence victims and witnesses or pressure them into giving testimony in his favor. “The defendant’s goal is to blackmail victims and witnesses either into silence or providing testimony helpful to his defense,” the filing charges.
Combs, who was arrested in September following an investigation that included raids on multiple properties, faces charges of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud or coercion, and transportation for prostitution. The accusations also involve his infamous “Freak Offs” parties, where alleged victims were forced into illicit acts. Despite the serious charges, Combs has denied any wrongdoing and pleaded not guilty. His trial is set to begin on May 5, 2025.
