Jake Paul’s victory over the legendary Mike Tyson has the fight world buzzing, but it’s not just fans who are reacting. Former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou has thrown his name into the ring, hinting at a potential clash with the polarizing boxer.
The blockbuster bout at Dallas’ Toyota Music Factory ended with “The Problem Child” securing a unanimous decision over the 58-year-old Tyson. Paul leveraged his youth and power to keep the aging boxing icon on the defensive. Tyson’s strongest moments came early, but after getting rocked in the third round, he struggled to regain momentum. Despite going the distance for all eight rounds, Tyson couldn’t sway the judges, and Paul walked away with the win.
Ngannou, a huge supporter of Tyson and a self-proclaimed fan, wasn’t thrilled. The MMA powerhouse took to X/Twitter to share his thoughts: “Next time I see this @jakepaul guy I’m gonna give him 2 or 3 slaps.”
Ironically, Paul already felt the sting of Tyson’s palm earlier this week. During their intense weigh-in staredown, Paul stepped on Tyson’s toe, prompting the former champ to slap him — an action that, unfortunately for Tyson, was his best strike during fight week.
Here’s where things get interesting: both Paul and Ngannou are signed to the Professional Fighters League (PFL). While “The Predator” made a splashy debut last month, winning the inaugural PFL Super Fights heavyweight championship by defeating Renan Ferreira in under four minutes, Paul has yet to make his MMA debut. But he’s hinted that stepping into the Smart Cage is on his to-do list.
Ngannou, known for his devastating power, has two boxing matches on his resume — both losses to heavyweights Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua. But don’t let that fool you; Ngannou’s MMA record stands at an impressive 18-3, with 13 of those wins by knockout.
Would Jake Paul really step up to face Ngannou in an MMA fight? Highly unlikely. Paul may have fought at heavyweight against Tyson, but taking on Ngannou — who weighs in at the top of the heavyweight division — would be a whole different animal. A match against The Predator could spell disaster for Paul in either boxing or MMA. Ngannou’s sheer size, power, and KO record make him a beast few would willingly challenge.
Still, Paul is known for pushing boundaries and chasing the unexpected. If he decides he wants a piece of Ngannou, “The Predator” will be waiting, ready with that infamous open palm.
