It’s been a rough 2024 for Drake, and Friday night only added to the list of L’s for the 6 God.

The rapper, known for his high-profile sports bets, found himself on the losing side once more as Jake Paul secured a decisive victory over Mike Tyson. Despite Drake putting down a hefty $355K on Iron Mike, the 58-year-old legend fell short, losing to Paul by unanimous decision.

In classic Drake fashion, he took to Instagram before the fight to share his optimism and betting slip. “I’m late but I’m here money on the liiiiiiiiine for today,” he posted, tagging betting platform @stake and hoping for a win. Unfortunately, Paul’s dominance in the ring meant no dubs for Drake. Even Tyga, another Young Money alum, joined Drake in placing big money on Tyson, only to see their bets go down the drain as the match wore on and fans started to boo during the later rounds.

Drake’s streak of sports betting losses hasn’t gone unnoticed by fans—or by DJ Akademiks, who couldn’t resist poking fun at the rapper. “Drake my mans,” Ak tweeted. “But once I seen him bet on Tyson I knew he lost.” The sentiment spread quickly across Twitter, with many echoing the belief that Drake’s bets are a kiss of death for any athlete or team.

The internet’s response was a mix of humor and schadenfreude. ESPN Bets even joined in, posting a gif of Jon Bernthal in The Punisher with the caption: “Mike Tyson bettors after seeing Drake bet on him to win.” One fan bitterly tweeted, “Mike Tyson might not have won but at least Drake lost,” while another noted just how brutal this year has been for the “God’s Plan” artist: “Dude can’t catch a break this year.”

Drake’s 2024 hasn’t just been rough on the sports betting front. Earlier this year, he lost a whopping $300K betting on Canada in the Copa America game and another $500K on the Stanley Cup winner. Not to mention, he faced a major blow when he lost what many are calling the biggest hip-hop battle of the 21st century.

While memes and jokes continue to flood social media, one thing is clear: the Drake curse lives on, casting its shadow over yet another sporting event.

What do you think about Drake’s betting streak? Is the “Drake Curse” real, or is it just bad luck? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comment section below.

With a history in finance, he broke into the journalism game by writing on blogs and other freelance websites before branching into sports and entertainment news. Being in tune with pop culture doesn't mean it has to make sense, but he tries. Favorite bands include any group from Seattle who formed between 1991 and 1999. 5 Ozzfests under his belt and 12 Warped Tours, but his last concert was a bluegrass AC/DC cover band that was not 100% terrible.
