It looks like Mac Miller fans just got a reason to celebrate, as whispers of the late rapper’s long-lost album Balloonerism are making serious waves.

During the first night of Tyler, The Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw festival at L.A.’s Dodger Stadium on November 16, a tantalizing teaser sparked hope for new music from the Pittsburgh legend. Sandwiched between Sampha and The Alchemist’s sets at the “Gnaw” stage, attendees were treated to a colorful, trippy visual display featuring anthropomorphic animals, all set to the previously leaked track “5 Dollar Pony Rides.”

And then came the bombshell: a title card flashed a simple promise, “Soon,” as an abstract, George Condo-inspired balloon of Mac Miller’s face floated up on the big screen. Fans are buzzing with excitement, with many believing that Balloonerism, an album recorded between Watching Movies With The Sound Off and Faces (2013-2014), might finally see the light of day. Though parts of the project trickled out over the years through leaks, a full official release could be on the horizon.

E. Dan’s Hint, Then Delete

Adding fuel to the fire, ID Labs’ E. Dan—one of Mac’s longtime collaborators—posted and quickly deleted a message about the project. He revealed that Balloonerism was born from a week’s worth of studio jam sessions before Mac shifted focus to Faces, taking a few tracks with him. It’s no wonder fans are eager to know what more lies in that vault.

Proceed With Caution

While this potential release has the community excited, some are naturally wary when it comes to posthumous projects. Luckily, Mac Miller’s estate has managed previous releases with care, honoring his legacy without compromising his artistic vision. If Balloonerism follows suit, fans can look forward to celebrating Mac’s music in a way that feels genuine and heartfelt.
