Conor McGregor is back in the headlines, this time for his reaction to Michael Chandler’s Fight of the Night brawl with Charles Oliveira at UFC 309.

In a now-deleted post on X/Twitter, the former two-division UFC champ had some cheeky words for Chandler, who lost the rematch by unanimous decision at Madison Square Garden.

“Cut Michael Chandler!” McGregor initially wrote before quickly softening the jab. “Just kidding, good fight. Mad little fellow is Michael. I like em’!” The comment stirred up buzz among MMA fans, who have been eagerly awaiting McGregor’s return to the octagon.

Chandler (23-9 MMA, 2-4 UFC) stepped back into the spotlight at UFC 309 after a two-year layoff, a break he spent waiting for a showdown with McGregor. The two were rival coaches on Season 31 of The Ultimate Fighter, adding fuel to the anticipation of their eventual clash. Despite his defeat, Chandler seized the mic in his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan to passionately call out McGregor, urging him to make his comeback and finally meet him in the cage.

McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) hasn’t fought since breaking his leg during his trilogy match with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021. Though he was set to fight Chandler at UFC 303 this past July, McGregor pulled out just weeks before the match, citing a toe injury.

When asked about rebooking McGregor vs. Chandler during the UFC 309 post-fight press conference, UFC CEO Dana White kept fans guessing. “I don’t know,” White said, adding that he doesn’t expect McGregor to fight again until late 2025.

With Chandler’s passionate callout and McGregor’s teasing online comments, it’s clear the hype for this potential matchup is far from fading.
