Jesse Eisenberg isn’t shy about revisiting his breakout role as Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network—or any role for that matter.
While attending the Governors Awards in Los Angeles, the actor told E! News on November 17 that he’s game for any project that comes his way, even joking, “If there’s a car commercial for a Pinto, I’ll show up on set. Will I be in that movie? Yeah, I’ll be in anything. If you’re making a home movie for a kid, I’ll be in the home movie.” Talk about dedication to the craft!
The Zombieland star doesn’t share the same hang-ups as some actors who avoid sequels to preserve the magic of the original. When asked if he’d reprise his role as the tech mogul, Jesse quipped, “I don’t have those feelings. I don’t care if I’m sitting in a Pinto and saying, ‘Hey, everybody, buy the Pinto. Or an Edsel. I’m just happy to be involved.”
Despite Eisenberg’s enthusiasm, he admitted he’s not in the loop when it comes to a potential The Social Network 2. “I’ve heard nothing about it,” he confessed. “Except for occasionally, like an interview, and they tell me.”
But while Jesse may be out of the loop, writer Aaron Sorkin has toyed with the idea of a sequel. Speaking during a live recording of The Town podcast, Sorkin linked Facebook to the January 6 Capitol attack, pointing out how the social media giant’s algorithm promotes divisive content to keep users engaged. “I blame Facebook for January 6,” Sorkin said. “You’re going to need to buy a movie ticket,” he teased when asked for more details, sparking buzz that a follow-up could be more politically charged than the original.
As for now, Jesse’s energy is focused on his latest project, A Real Pain, where he stars alongside Kieran Culkin. Not only did he act, but he also wrote and directed the film, which he described as a standout experience thanks to Culkin’s unpredictable genius. “He just lives in this kind of spontaneous universe of his own making. He’s so brilliant,” Jesse said.
So, what do you think? Would a politically charged sequel to The Social Network hit the mark, and should Jesse suit up as Zuckerberg again? Please share your thoughts and feedback in the comment section below.
