Kelly Reilly Gets Real About Playing Beth Dutton and Her Future in the Yellowstone Universe

Yellowstone fans, listen up! Kelly Reilly, the fierce actress behind the iconic Beth Dutton, is opening up about her role in the wildly popular series and what might come next.

The 47-year-old star recently sat down with Town & Country and shared some juicy details about embodying Beth, her take on the show’s cultural impact, and the possibility of returning for a spin-off.

“I love gearing up to play her, because there’s an adrenaline to Beth and it’s very energizing. But it’s also incredibly gnarly. I have to hide all of me away to put some of that on. I love her, but I can’t live with her,” Reilly admitted, revealing the complex nature of portraying one of TV’s most formidable women.

Reilly also shared that landing the role was no straightforward affair. “I didn’t even audition. Then I was like, ‘F-ck, I didn’t audition.’ I was terrified, because I didn’t know how I was going to do it. And it took me a minute to find her.”

Beth Dutton’s fearless nature is what makes her a fan favorite, and Reilly acknowledges how the role has influenced her off-screen life. “It’s a fantasy. But as in all fantasies, there is a little 10 percent that you can distill and inhabit. It shifts the energy a bit: how you own yourself, how you feel about yourself. I have definitely gotten more backbone in my life because of Beth. I didn’t know I could walk into a room and do that. I’m less afraid of a room,” she explained.

And while Yellowstone has taken the world by storm, Reilly prefers to stay out of the limelight. “I don’t participate in the noise in any way. I stay out of it. The only safe place for me is in the work—and then home with my husband. Very boring. It can become a cyclone of bullsh-t and fakeness, and I know I won’t find my worth in that,” she said, dropping some wisdom on navigating fame.

But what about Beth’s future? Reilly teased the idea of exploring Beth in new ways. “I am definitely interested in Beth, and who she is after some things have happened. Who is she in peace? As an actor you’re like, ‘Ooh, let me at that.’ Wouldn’t it be fun to watch Beth go to therapy?” she revealed, sparking curiosity about what a spin-off might look like.

As Yellowstone gears up for the premiere of season 5B and with Kevin Costner’s fate still up in the air, fans can’t help but wonder if more of Beth Dutton is on the horizon.
