NBA YoungBoy, whose real name is Kentrell DeSean Gaulden, just dodged a major bullet.
According to ABC4 News, The rapper has pleaded guilty to 10 counts in connection to his prescription fraud ring case in Utah. In a move that will keep him out of prison, YoungBoy accepted a deal that includes paying a $25,000 fine. He pled guilty to two counts of third-degree felony identity fraud, two counts of third-degree felony forgery, and six counts of misdemeanor unlawful pharmacy conduct. He also entered a “no contest” plea to 36 other charges in the case.
Logan District Judge Spencer Walsh signed off on the deal, opting to suspend the prison sentence due to YoungBoy’s existing 27-month term in a separate federal case. “I’ve seen so many times where you have young men and women who have a lot of talent and potential. They can be robbed of that potential when they start to really struggle with their addictions,” Walsh said at the hearing. “I don’t want that for you. I’m sure that in your future, once you’re done with your federal prison time, you can be really successful on federal probation and have a really bright future where you can reach your full potential in every aspect of your life. Best of luck to you, Mr. Gaulden.”
YoungBoy’s legal battles have been extensive. He had been living under house arrest in Utah following an alleged shooting in Miami in 2019. His legal team argued in 2021 that relocating to Utah would help keep him on the straight and narrow. But despite the move, he found himself back in hot water when police arrested him in April for allegedly running a prescription fraud ring out of his home.
The rapper also agreed to serve over two years in prison for a Louisiana gun case back in September. But in true YoungBoy fashion, he’s not letting legal troubles slow him down. The artist is set to drop his next album, I Just Got a Lot on My Shoulders, on December 6.
