Ariana Grande is ready to step back into the spotlight—this time on the big screen as Glinda in the highly-anticipated Wicked movie, set to hit theaters on November 22, 2024. But while she’s gearing up for this blockbuster musical alongside Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, don’t expect her to return to The Voice anytime soon.
In a recent appearance on the Las Culturistas podcast with Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers, Grande opened up about her stint as a coach on season 21 of the hit singing competition. The pop superstar, who was known for her heartfelt connections with contestants, admitted she got way too emotionally involved.
“I got so emotionally attached to everyone,” Grande shared. “That’s my problem. I can’t really do that ’cause I really get in there with everyone and I love everyone so much.”
Grande’s time on The Voice wasn’t just a whirlwind for fans—it was intense for her, too. Rogers cheekily asked if she’d ever return just for the fun of spinning around in the chair. Grande laughed and confessed,
“So, no, but it was a perk. It was a good perk!” But despite the fun of the spinning chair, Grande emphasized how invested she was in her team. “I love meeting people and I felt so invested, and I still do,” she said.
For fans wondering if Grande keeps in touch with her former team members, she’s still got her eye on them. While she admitted she’s too busy to keep close contact, Grande revealed, “I keep in touch with them on Instagram. Like, I like their posts, I see their things, I see what they’re up to.” Proving she’s still tuned in, she added, “Bella had a baby, Sasha’s putting out solo music … he sent me his project last year and he’s so talented.”
And when the conversation turned to her former fellow coach Kelly Clarkson, Grande had nothing but praise. After Rogers questioned Clarkson’s vocal prowess, Grande shut it down with an emphatic, “She’s [expletive] incredible. Kelly Clarkson, she’s unbelievable. She really is one of the greatest vocalists that there ever has been ever.”
Grande may be busy with Wicked and her ever-growing career, but her time on The Voice left a lasting impression—and she’s made it clear just how deep those bonds ran.
