Benny Blanco Didn’t Realize His First Date With Selena Gomez Was a Date

Benny Blanco is letting fans in on the details of his romance with Selena Gomez! The 36-year-old music producer and the 32-year-old pop superstar have been dating for over a year, and in a recent appearance on Kai Cenat’s live stream, Benny gave fans a behind-the-scenes look at how their love story began.

“Our first text, when we were asking each other out on a date… She asked me out. It was crazy,” Benny revealed in a clip that’s now making waves on Twitter/X. “She literally asked me out. We were just talking, and then she was like, ‘Oh, you want to get dinner?’ And like, I went to dinner, and I had no idea…”

Benny shared that he and Selena had been friends for over a decade before things turned romantic. “We’ve been friends for like ten years plus, maybe 15. I met her when she was so much younger,” he explained.

The Grammy-nominated producer went on to recall their first date, which didn’t exactly start as one—at least not in his mind. “She was like, ‘Oh, let’s go get dinner tomorrow,’ and I was like, ‘Oh, I’m going to this thing with my friends. Why don’t you come hang out with me first, then we’ll go link for dinner.’ So, we just went and got a drink first, and I didn’t even realize we were on a date!”

It wasn’t until Selena made a comment that Benny caught on. “She was like, ‘I would’ve worn something different to this date,’ and I was like, ‘Wait, what? We’re on a date?’ I had no idea!” he laughed. The night ended early because Selena had to film a video the next day, but the chemistry was undeniable. “We hung out two days later, and then I was like, yo… I think she likes me. Then I literally just kissed her, and the rest is history.”

Now, Benny says the couple spends nearly all their time together. “Every day together… As many days as we can. Every day. Yeah, she’s my best friend. Actual best friend.”
