Gable Steveson was released by WWE earlier this year and he tried his hand at NFL, but it didn’t quite pan out. Steveson has now been training in the world of MMA and has now addressed his future in the sport.

Following his departure from WWE, he pursued a career in the NFL by joining the Buffalo Bills. Despite this effort, he was released from the roster and did not make it onto the team’s practice squad and that ended his NFL career for now.

After his NFL career ended, Steveson shifted his focus to MMA and started training under the guidance of Jon Jones, marking a new chapter in his career. He even managed to show off some impressive moves.

While speaking to Ariel Helwani, Gable Steveson was asked about his future in the world of MMA and whether he would join a promotion and become a legitimate fighter. Steveson stated that training with Jon Jones made him seriously consider it. He hasn’t picked a promotion yet, but working with Jones’s team motivated him and gave him confidence.

Steveson added MMA felt natural, combining his wrestling with boxing and jiu-jitsu. While he doesn’t have a fight planned yet, he believes he has a clear path to success. He’s taking time to fully prepare so he can be ready to show his skills and make a strong start in MMA.

“I mean, I dipped and dabbed in MMA for a while now, and after being in that camp with Jon Jones, it definitely put a major spark in me to go out there and do MMA. I’m not sure about the promotion yet, but Jon definitely lit a fire under me and said, ‘Hey, I think you should go back to wrestling. I think you should try MMA. We’ve got a great team here in Albuquerque if you want to join us.’

It was fascinating how quickly I got into it. When I put on the gloves, everything felt like home. With the wrestling, the boxing work, and the jiu-jitsu, I feel like I could be very good really quickly. I don’t have an MMA fight lined up yet, but I do have a path that could lead me somewhere great.

Do I have an MMA fight? No I do not have an MMA fight. We’re discussing it, and I think it’ll be a really good opportunity for me to get out there and showcase who I am. Am I going to take some time? Yes, absolutely. I want to make sure everything is 100% ready and that I’m physically capable of being the best version of myself—which I know I am. But like everything else, it’s going to take time.”

For the time being, Gable Steveson will return to the University of Minnesota wrestling team for a fifth season. Therefore, fans will need to wait and see whether Steveson will make it big in the world of MMA, as he certainly has potential.
