Conor McGregor’s legal troubles just took a massive hit. The UFC superstar has been found guilty of sexual assault in a civil case filed by Nikita Hand. After weeks of testimony in Dublin’s High Court, McGregor has been ordered to pay €248,603.60 (approximately $258,507) in damages to Hand.
Hand alleged that McGregor, alongside co-defendant James Laurence, assaulted her in 2018. While Laurence was found not guilty, Hand described McGregor’s actions as relentless, claiming he “would not take no for an answer.” McGregor, however, vehemently denied the accusations, testifying that the encounter was “athletic” and “fully consensual.”
The trial revealed harrowing details, with a doctor at Dublin’s Rotunda Hospital sexual assault unit describing Hand’s injuries as among “the worst cases” he had seen. Hand countered Laurence’s claim of consensual sex, stating she had no memory of the alleged acts, which she described as a “made-up story.”
The jury deliberated for over six hours before reaching their decision. While no exemplary or aggravated damages were added, the outcome marks a significant moment in the civil case.
This ruling will undoubtedly send shockwaves across the sports world as McGregor, who has faced legal troubles before, contends with the fallout from this case.
