Une of the three men charged in connection with Mac Miller’s fatal overdose is now a free man.
According to TMZ, Cameron James Pettit, who was arrested in 2019 for allegedly conspiring to distribute the drugs that led to the rapper’s death, was released from the Federal Correctional Institution in Mendota, California, on October 11.
Pettit, along with co-defendants Stephen Walter and Ryan Reavis, was indicted for allegedly selling counterfeit oxycodone pills laced with fentanyl to Miller, resulting in the rapper’s tragic passing in 2018. While Walter and Reavis both accepted plea deals and received lengthy sentences—17 years and 11 years, respectively—Pettit’s case has remained shrouded in mystery.
Court records indicate that Pettit never pled guilty and maintained his not-guilty plea from his 2019 arraignment. Despite this, he spent four years in federal custody. The current status of Pettit’s legal situation is unclear, as authorities have kept details tightly under wraps.
Mac Miller, beloved for his introspective lyricism and transformative artistry, passed away at just 26 years old. His untimely death sent shockwaves through the music world, highlighting the dangers of counterfeit drugs and the ongoing opioid crisis.
