The saga surrounding Conor McGregor and Nikita Hand has reached a dramatic conclusion, with Hand emerging victorious in her civil lawsuit against the former UFC champion. Hand, who accused McGregor and another man, James Lawrence, of raping her after a 2018 Christmas party, has broken her silence following the ruling.
During an emotional interview with The Irish Mail on Sunday, Hand shared why she always believed she would win. “My story is true,” she stated confidently. “I always believed in my heart that I would [win].” She added, “The ruling means my young daughter doesn’t have to grow up in a world where she has to shut up and say nothing.”
Hand admitted that the journey to justice has been exhausting, saying, “I am just really tired. I’m just trying to kind of take it day-by-day now.” Despite the emotional toll, she expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support she has received since the ruling, saying, “I’m just very overwhelmed with the support as well.”
The lawsuit awarded Hand a total of €248,603.60 (approximately $259,000), which includes general damages, loss of earnings, medical expenses, and future loss of earnings. Prosecutors previously decided against pursuing a criminal case due to insufficient evidence and concerns over Hand’s recollection of events, as she had consumed alcohol and drugs on the night in question.
McGregor, however, has vehemently denied the allegations and announced plans to appeal the ruling. In a now-deleted social media rant, he called the accusations “heinous” and doubled down on his innocence. “On we fight! Justice and truth will prevail! Appeal! Appeal! Appeal!” McGregor wrote.
Despite the controversy, Hand remains focused on the impact of her victory. Speaking about her hopes to inspire others, she said, “To all the victims of sexual assault, I hope my story is a reminder you have a voice and to keep on fighting for justice.”
Hand concluded by expressing her determination to move forward. “Now that justice has been served, I can try and move on and look forward to the future with my family, friends, and daughter.”
