The internet is buzzing with rumors about the next Sonic the Hedgehog game, and whispers of a Sonic Heroes remake are gaining traction. According to insider Ryan from the Bronx (formerly known as Midori), the new Sonic game currently has the codename “Guinness.”

Why Guinness? Apparently, Sega loves to use beer names as codenames for its remakes and remasters. But that’s not all—Sonic Heroes holds the Guinness World Record for “most playable characters in a platform video game,” adding more weight to the theory.

X/Twitter user @WOKENJJT added fuel to the fire, pointing out that beer-inspired codenames have historically been reserved for Sonic remakes, not new entries. The Sonic Heroes rumors first surfaced back in March, with Midori and Universo Nintendo hinting that a remake could follow Sonic x Shadow Generations.

Released in 2003, Sonic Heroes was a fan favorite, introducing teams of iconic characters like Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, and Shadow the Hedgehog, who was brought back after his apparent death in Sonic Adventure 2. The game’s unique team-based gameplay and diverse roster made it a standout in the franchise. However, Sonic Heroes has never been remastered or made available on modern platforms, leaving fans eager for a return.

What’s more, rumors of a Shadow the Hedgehog solo movie from Paramount add another layer of intrigue. A remake of Sonic Heroes—where Shadow plays a prominent role—would make perfect sense as Sega capitalizes on the character’s rising popularity.

Of course, nothing is confirmed yet, and fans are advised to take these rumors with a grain of salt. While Ryan from the Bronx has a solid track record, their credibility has been questioned since dropping the Midori handle. Still, they did leak Sonic Toys Party months before its official announcement, lending some credibility to their claims.

Could a Sonic Heroes remake be in the works for 2025? Only time will tell, but there’s no denying the excitement building around this classic title.
