Gunn explained, “They’ve told stories that were more family-orientated, stories that were more adult-orientated, dark stories, light stories.” For Superman, this means Gunn is embracing a “family-friendly” vibe that contrasts with his R-rated work like The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker.

Gunn reassured fans that Superman will remain true to his core values of hope and justice. “We have something that’s relatively serious like Superman and then something that’s relatively comedic like Peacemaker all in the same universe,” Gunn said, emphasizing that Superman will serve as a heartwarming hero for all ages.

With this new direction, Gunn has effectively distanced the DCU from Zack Snyder’s darker, more mature take on Superman. While Snyder’s vision brought a gritty edge to DC’s heroes, Gunn aims to recapture the optimism that makes Superman an enduring symbol of hope.
