Maya Hawke just dropped some major updates about the highly anticipated fifth and final season of Stranger Things, and fans better buckle up because it sounds like it’s going to be bigger than ever.
During an appearance on the Podcrushed podcast, the 25-year-old star revealed that filming is well underway for the final eight episodes, but don’t expect them to be short and sweet.
“We’re making, basically, eight movies,” Hawke said. “The episodes are very long.” The actress, who plays fan-favorite Robin Buckley, confirmed that she’ll be returning for the epic conclusion, which is expected to take the rest of the year to complete. The Stranger Things team began filming in January 2024, and it seems like they’re pulling out all the stops to go out with a bang.
Explaining the lengthy timeline for production, Hawke shared, “They are very intense and serious about the quality of the continued writing, and so it takes a long time to write each season and a long time to shoot them.” With season four wrapping up in 2022, fans have been eagerly waiting to dive back into the Upside Down, and this final chapter promises to be worth the wait.
As for what’s next, there’s even more Stranger Things tea brewing: one cast member who joined the series in season four won’t be returning. While details on this departure are still under wraps, it’s clear that season five will be a game-changing conclusion to the hit Netflix series.
