Bob Bryar, the longest-tenured drummer for My Chemical Romance, has passed away at the age of 44.
According to TMZ, musician was found dead in his Tennessee home on Tuesday, weeks after last being seen alive on November 4.
Law enforcement sources confirm no foul play is suspected in Bryar’s death. Investigators noted that his weapons and music equipment remained untouched in the home. Tragically, Bryar’s body was discovered in a state of advanced decomposition. Animal Control removed two dogs from the property following the discovery. The medical examiner is currently investigating the cause and manner of his death.
Bryar joined My Chemical Romance in 2004 after meeting the band while they were on tour with The Used. He stepped in as drummer following the release of the group’s breakthrough album Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge. Bryar played a pivotal role in shaping the sound of their iconic 2006 album The Black Parade and contributed to the songwriting on their 2010 release, Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys. However, Bryar left the band before Danger Days was released, citing creative differences.
Post-MCR, Bryar worked with other bands before announcing his transition from the music industry to real estate. He reflected on his career in a 2020 tribute to late Rush drummer Neil Peart, sharing heartfelt memories of their friendship and his admiration for Peart’s influence on his drumming.
In recent years, Bryar spoke candidly about his struggles with mental health, sharing on social media that he faced suicidal thoughts after leaving My Chemical Romance. Despite his challenges, Bryar remains a beloved figure among fans, credited with helping shape the band’s signature sound during their peak years.
My Chemical Romance, who reunited for a world tour in 2022, are set to return to the road next year, though Bryar was not part of the lineup. His legacy as the drummer behind some of the band’s most iconic work, however, remains undeniable.
