Alexis Ohanian, entrepreneur and husband to tennis icon Serena Williams, revealed a recent health scare that led to surgery. Taking to Instagram on Thanksgiving, the Reddit cofounder shared that he underwent surgery to remove half his thyroid after monitoring “suspicious nodules” for four years.
Ohanian posted a photo from his hospital bed, showing the fresh scar on his neck, and explained the decision to move forward with the procedure. “The nodules kept getting bigger over time,” he wrote, adding that his latest biopsy indicated they were “very likely to turn cancerous.” Faced with that risk, Ohanian said, “I wasn’t going to take a chance.”
Cancer is a deeply personal subject for Ohanian, whose mother battled breast cancer at a similar age before ultimately succumbing to brain cancer years later. “I hate cancer,” he stated bluntly, reflecting on how the disease has impacted his family.
Thankfully, the surgery was a success, and Ohanian reported feeling well post-op. The only downside? A brief hiatus from his workout routine. “The worst part is not being able to lift for 2 weeks,” he joked, calling it a small price to pay for his health.
In his heartfelt post, Ohanian urged other men to prioritize their health and get regular checkups, especially fathers like himself. “Take care of yourselves, fellas,” he advised.
The proud dad also included photos of his daughters, 6-year-old Olympia and 1-year-old Adira, alongside the post. With his family by his side, Ohanian’s gratitude for good health was clear this Thanksgiving.
