Demi Moore got candid about her career choices and the evolving movie industry during her appearance on Hot Ones. While battling spicy hot wings, the iconic actress opened up about her appetite for taking risks and her concerns about the changing cinema landscape.
When discussing her approach to roles, Demi emphasized the importance of taking chances, citing her new film The Substance as an example. “It really means that it was holding something that was worth the risk,” she said, explaining how the project felt like it could be “something extraordinary or could be an absolute disaster.”
She drew parallels to her 1990 classic Ghost, a film that became a cultural phenomenon despite its unique mix of genres. “I felt that way also about Ghost because it had so many different genres mixed together that, truly, I thought, ‘This could either be amazing or a f—ing disaster,’” she shared. “Either way, it’s usually the kind of juice that says, ‘Step in. Take the risk. Roll the dice. Let’s see what happens.’”
The conversation also veered into the future of filmmaking and the ongoing shift toward streaming platforms. Demi voiced her concerns about the “loss of the cinema experience,” describing it as a risk to human connection. “I think the risk — not just in cinema, but in life in general — is that we’re moving towards too much isolation,” she explained.
While Moore praised streaming for its accessibility and opportunities, she stressed the importance of preserving the communal magic of theaters. “I hope that we can find a middle ground with bringing us all back to the theater too, to really not lose that.”
Demi’s reflections are a timely reminder of why movies are more than just entertainment—they’re experiences meant to be shared.
