Elton John, the legendary “Rocket Man” singer, made a shocking revelation during a charity gala at London’s Dominion Theatre on Sunday night.

Speaking to the audience after a performance of The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical, the 77-year-old icon revealed he has lost his eyesight following a battle with a “severe” infection.

“As some of you may know, I have had issues, and now I have lost my sight,” Elton confessed, according to the BBC. “I haven’t been able to see the performance, but I have enjoyed listening to it.” Despite his struggles, Elton’s positive spirit shone through as he thanked the crowd and praised the night’s show.

The Grammy winner also expressed deep gratitude to his husband, David Furnish, calling him his “rock” during this challenging time. “To my husband, who’s been my rock, because I haven’t been able to come to many of the previews… it’s hard for me to see it, but I love to hear it,” Elton said in a video posted on TikTok. “And, boy, it sounded good tonight! OK! Thank you for coming!”

Elton’s vision struggles began earlier this year. In July, he suffered an infection while in the South of France, which ultimately left him without sight in his right eye. “It’s been four months now since I haven’t been able to see,” Elton shared during a recent Good Morning America interview. “And my left eye’s not the greatest, so there’s hope and encouragement that it will be OK, but I’m kind of stuck at the moment.”

Despite the setback, Elton remains hopeful about his recovery. In September, he shared that while his vision was limited to one eye, doctors were optimistic about his healing process. “There’s hope and encouragement that it will be OK, but it’s an extremely slow process,” he noted.

Sunday night’s gala performance was a special one for Elton, as he wrote the original score for The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical. The star-studded event included appearances from Vanessa Williams, Anna Wintour, Lily Collins, and Elizabeth Hurley.
