Cassie Ventura, the first to publicly accuse Sean “P. Diddy” Combs of assault, reportedly sought to settle the matter privately before taking legal action.

According to attorney and legal commentator Donte Mills, Cassie approached Diddy in an effort to resolve the allegations without filing a lawsuit.

In an upcoming episode of the podcast series The Rise and Fall of Diddy, set to debut on December 4, Mills revealed new details about the case. “She came to him before she filed [any] lawsuit and said, ‘I believed I was wronged by you,’ and she gave him an opportunity to settle the case before she brought [a] lawsuit,” Mills stated in a preview obtained by The Guardian.

He added, “I know that both Sean Combs’ attorneys and Cassie’s attorneys were in conversation… but they were not able to, and those settlement negotiations fell through.”

Cassie ultimately filed her lawsuit, but the matter was settled privately just one day after filing, reportedly for an eight-figure sum. The settlement included no admission of wrongdoing from Diddy. However, the situation escalated months later when footage leaked showing the rapper physically assaulting Cassie in a hotel hallway, an incident Diddy addressed in a video, taking “responsibility” for his actions.

Cassie’s statement at the time of filing her case struck a chord with many. “After years in silence and darkness, I am finally ready to tell my story, and to speak up on behalf of myself and for the benefit of other women who face violence and abuse in their relationships,” she shared.

Following Cassie’s lawsuit, a wave of allegations from other accusers surfaced. Diddy now faces over 120 civil lawsuits, with Texas attorney Tony Buzbee leading the charge. The music mogul was arrested earlier this year on sex trafficking charges and remains in custody in Brooklyn after multiple failed bail attempts. His trial is set for early 2025, and he continues to “vehemently” deny all allegations against him.

As more lawsuits continue to emerge, the legal battle surrounding Diddy shows no signs of slowing down.
