“Family Guy” is making its return to Adult Swim in 2025, and fans of the Griffin family have a lot to look forward to.
According to Variety, the animated classic will kick off its comeback with a massive three-day marathon starting on January 1, featuring back-to-back episodes airing from 7 p.m. ET/PT to 5 a.m. After the marathon, episodes will air weeknights from 10:00 to 11:30 p.m. ET/PT.
This marks a nostalgic full-circle moment for “Family Guy,” which originally found its footing on Adult Swim after Fox canceled the show in 2002. The reruns on Adult Swim helped catapult the series to cult status, and when combined with blockbuster DVD sales, they convinced Fox to revive the series in 2005. Now entering its 23rd season, the show remains a pop culture powerhouse, with recent holiday specials premiering on Hulu and more new episodes set to air on Fox in 2025.
Michael Ouweleen, president of Adult Swim, expressed his excitement about the return: “Adult Swim is a huge part of Family Guy’s early history, and we’re excited for the series to return to our lineup in 2025. Having ‘Family Guy’ back on our air is a great complement to the amazing slate of animated originals we also have planned for next year.”
While “Family Guy” reruns had moved to FXX in 2021 after its licensing agreement with Adult Swim expired, the new deal is non-exclusive. This means fans can still catch reruns on FXX, but Adult Swim will be adding the iconic show back to its late-night roster.
For those unfamiliar, “Family Guy” follows the outrageous antics of the Griffin family from Quahog, Rhode Island. Patriarch Peter Griffin (voiced by Seth MacFarlane) bumbles through life with his wife Lois (Alexandrea Borstein) and their three kids: social outcast Meg (Mila Kunis), awkward teen Chris (Seth Green), and genius baby Stewie (MacFarlane). Let’s not forget Brian, the talking, martini-loving family dog, also voiced by MacFarlane.
