Nicki Minaj is making her voice heard, and she isn’t holding back. On Monday, the rap icon took to Twitter to question Spotify’s decision to delay the release of its annual Wrapped data, fueling speculation about the streaming platform’s motives. Minaj’s tweets came amid rumors sparked by Drake, who recently accused Spotify and Universal Music Group of inflating Kendrick Lamar’s streaming numbers with bots.

Minaj didn’t mince words. “Show me the data,” she tweeted, calling out the platform directly. She followed that with a sharper critique, writing, “Spotify ain’t gotta lie.” Minaj’s words carried extra weight considering the rapper’s monumental success on Spotify this year. She was recently crowned the most streamed female rapper in November with 355 million streams and is the top female rapper of 2024 with an incredible 4.1 billion streams and counting. According to QC Worldwide, Minaj is on track to close the year with 4.5 billion streams.

This isn’t the first time Minaj has clashed with Spotify. Back in 2018, she accused the platform of sidelining her music to promote Drake. “Spotify put Drake’s face on every playlist but told me they’d have to teach me a lesson for playing my music 10 mins early on #QueenRadio,” Minaj tweeted at the time. “Even tho they’ve been giving away my music for free for years & I am one of the top Spotify artists of all time.”

Despite their rocky history, it seems Minaj and Drake are now united in their criticism of Spotify. Both rappers have faced scrutiny from fans and industry insiders alike, but their current alliance shows they’re ready to push back against the industry in full force. With Minaj’s impressive streaming numbers and Drake’s consistent influence, they’re proving their critics wrong.
