Horror fans, the wait is over! Sony has confirmed that the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot is officially in production, and the iconic fisherman, Ben, is making his deadly return. A first-look photo shows the infamous hook-wielding arm in a dusty room, signaling the start of filming for the highly anticipated horror revival.

Freddie Prinze Jr. is back as Ray, reprising his role from the original 1997 slasher. While Jennifer Love Hewitt is reportedly in active talks to return as Julie, don’t expect Sarah Michelle Gellar to resurrect Helen. Gellar cheekily confirmed her character’s fate, saying, “I am dead,” on Instagram.

Joining the legacy stars is a fresh lineup of talent, including Nicholas Alexander Chavez (Ryan Murphy’s Monsters), Madelyn Cline (Outer Banks, Knives Out: A Glass Onion Story), Jonah Haur-King (The Little Mermaid), Billy Campbell, Chase Sui Wonders, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, Lola Tung, Austin Nichols, and Gabbriette.

Director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (Do Revenge) promises the reboot will honor the canon of the original films, avoiding plot holes while building on the franchise’s bloody legacy. Leah McKendrick is penning the script, ensuring that the story stays true to its roots.

The original I Know What You Did Last Summer film, based on Lois Duncan’s novel, became a cultural touchstone, grossing over $125 million at the box office. Its sequels, however, saw diminishing returns, with the second film earning $40 million and the third going straight to DVD in 2006. A recent Prime Video reboot series failed to gain traction, lasting just one season.

This time, the franchise aims to recapture its former glory, with the fisherman stalking a new generation while keeping the original films’ events in play.

I Know What You Did Last Summer slashes its way into theaters on July 18, 2025.

Are you ready for the fisherman’s return? What are your thoughts on the reboot’s cast and how it ties to the original series? Let us know your theories and hopes for the reboot in the comments below!
