Barry Keoghan has reached his limit with the relentless online abuse he’s endured, addressing the situation in a fiery statement shared on X/Twitter on Saturday. The Irish actor deleted his Instagram earlier that day, calling it a “distraction” that had become toxic.
In his statement, Barry explained why he made the decision to step back from Instagram, revealing that he could no longer ignore the lies, hatred, and disgusting commentary that had been directed at him. He wrote, “I can only sit and take so much. My name has been dragged across the internet in ways I usually don’t respond to. I have to respond now because it’s gettin’ to a place where there are too many lines being crossed.”
Barry outlined the shocking behavior he’s had to endure, including being called a “heroine baby,” having his upbringing and mother dragged into online discussions, and even dealing with paparazzi and harassment outside his loved ones’ homes. He stated, “Knocking on my grannie’s door, sitting outside my baby boy’s house intimidating them… that’s crossing a line.”
Above all, Barry made it clear that his son is his top priority. “Each and every day I work harder to push myself on every level to be the healthiest and strongest person for that boy,” he said. “I want him to be able to look up to his daddy, to have full trust in me, and know I will have his back no matter what.”
Barry concluded his statement with a heartfelt plea: “I need you to remember he has to read ALL of this about his father when he is older. Please be respectful to all. Thank u x.”
The statement follows Barry’s high-profile breakup with Sabrina Carpenter, which had already drawn increased attention to his personal life. While he’s chosen to remove himself from Instagram, his message on X made it clear he’s determined to shield his family from the negativity of social media.
