Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg are closing out 2024 with a bang as they gear up to drop their highly anticipated new album, Missionary, on December 13.
The West Coast legends recently sat down for a live taping of the Drink Champs podcast at Complex Con, where they gave fans a deeper look into the project and their thoughts on its place within their iconic discographies.
Dr. Dre didn’t hold back when describing how proud he is of Missionary. “Snoop came in and allowed me to get down the way I get down,” Dre said. “You know, I feel like this is some of my best work. Because my mentality for the musicianship and everything that goes into doing this s**t within those 12 notes has just advanced so much. So, yeah, I feel like right now, today, this is some of my best work.”
That’s no small statement coming from the mastermind behind classics like The Chronic, Doggystyle, and 2001. Dre’s confidence in Missionary has fans excited, and if the singles are any indication, it promises to be a vibrant and celebratory album that captures the duo’s unmatched chemistry.
During the Drink Champs session, Snoop Dogg weighed in on a completely different topic, addressing the backlash over the Super Bowl halftime show lineup for next year. Reflecting on his own performance, he pointed to the progress made under Jay-Z’s influence in organizing the event. “What we need to think about is that before Jay-Z got control of the Super Bowl, wasn’t no n***as performing,” Snoop said. “He’s creating a wave of artists to have an opportunity to perform. If you are a good artist and you are a great artist, your time will come.”
The pair also got emotional discussing the evolution of Death Row Records and how their legacies have shaped hip-hop. With Missionary poised to drop, it’s clear these two legends are far from done making history.
