Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is speeding into theaters on December 20, and fans of the franchise have even more reason to stay glued to their seats until the final credits roll.
Paramount confirmed during CCXP via Collider that the movie will feature “multiple” post-credit scenes, teasing new characters and future storylines. The studio revealed that these scenes will extend “to the last second,” ensuring audiences won’t want to miss a moment.
Post-credit scenes are nothing new to the Sonic film universe. The first movie gave fans their first glimpse of Tails, setting up his role in the sequel. Similarly, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 left fans buzzing with the reveal of Shadow the Hedgehog. With Sonic 3 reportedly pulling heavily from the storyline of Sonic Adventure 2, Shadow’s arc is expected to play a central role in the film. However, the post-credit scenes could also pave the way for more characters and spin-offs.
Speculation is already running rampant about which fan-favorites could appear. From Team Chaotix and Metal Sonic to Amy, Rouge the Bat, and even IDW comic characters like Doctor Starline and Tangle, the possibilities seem endless. Producer Toby Ascher recently fueled excitement during a Sonic Central presentation, saying, “There’s such a rich universe of stories. I don’t see us slowing down at all.”
Rumors have also suggested that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 could open the door for Sonic CD’s time travel elements, possibly introducing Silver the Hedgehog or tying in with other Sega classics. Whether these ideas come to fruition remains to be seen, but fans won’t have to wait much longer to find out.
The Sonic the Hedgehog film franchise has proven to be a massive success, and Sonic 3 looks poised to continue that streak. With “multiple” post-credit scenes confirmed, December 20 promises to bring not only an exciting film but also a glimpse into what’s next for the blue blur on the big screen.
