Henry Cavill’s passion project is finally taking shape. Two years after Amazon MGM Studios secured global rights to the Warhammer 40,000 franchise from Games Workshop, a TV series is officially in development, according to Deadline.
Cavill, who is set to star and executive produce, has been deeply involved in building what’s being described as a cinematic universe around the beloved tabletop game.
Sources reveal a “mini-room” has already been assembled to solidify the creative direction for the Warhammer universe. While no showrunner has been named yet, the project is moving forward steadily. Amazon initially acquired the rights in December 2022 and extended them for another 12 months last year, ensuring the vision for the series could take its time to develop.
To mark this milestone, Cavill took to Instagram to share his journey. “To celebrate some Warhammer news, I decided to make a pilgrimage to the very first place I bought Warhammer models over 30 years ago…the Little Shop, on my home island of Jersey!” he wrote, reflecting on his long-standing connection to the franchise.
“My incredible team and I, alongside the brilliant minds at Games Workshop, have been working away in concept rooms, breaking down approaches to the enormity and magnificence of the Warhammer world. Together, we’ve been sifting through the plethora of incredible characters and poring over old tomes and texts. Our combined efforts have led us to a fantastic place to start our Universe, which has been agreed upon by those up on high at both Amazon and Games Workshop,” Cavill shared. However, he teased that the starting point for the universe remains a closely guarded secret. “Watch this space, though—more to come in time!”
With Cavill’s deep enthusiasm for the Warhammer universe and Amazon’s investment, this project has the potential to bring the game’s intricate and expansive lore to life on an epic scale.
