Luigi Mangione has been formally charged with the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, following a shocking incident last week in midtown Manhattan.
Court records obtained by TMZ confirm Mangione now faces multiple charges, including murder, two counts of possession of a loaded firearm, possession of a forged instrument, and criminal possession of a weapon.
Mangione’s arrest comes after he was apprehended in Altoona, Pennsylvania, where police reportedly found him with a fake New Jersey driver’s license and a handgun at a McDonald’s. Earlier on Monday, Mangione appeared in a Pennsylvania court for weapons and forgery offenses before the murder charges were filed in New York.
In response to the developing case, Mangione’s cousin, Maryland Republican Delegate Nino Mangione, who represents parts of Baltimore County, issued a statement. “Our family is shocked and devastated by Luigi’s arrest,” he said. “We offer our prayers to the family of Brian Thompson and we ask people to pray for all involved. We are devastated by this news.” Nino also noted that the family cannot comment further as they “only know what we have read in the media.”
Brian Thompson’s murder has sent shockwaves through the healthcare and business communities, as details of the case continue to emerge. Authorities have yet to release information about the motive behind the alleged crime.
As this story unfolds, Mangione faces significant legal battles ahead, with investigations continuing into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
