M3GAN 2.0 is coming together, and Entertainment Weekly has dropped the first two images from the sequel to the 2022 horror hit.

One shot confirms what fans already suspected: the deadly android doll is back, and she’s as chilling as ever. The other reveals a now-older Cady (Violet McGraw), picking up her aunt Gemma’s knack for robotics—despite the trauma she endured in round one.

Director Gerard Johnstone and producer-star Allison Williams offered insight into the sequel, which hits theaters on June 27, 2025. Johnstone hinted that ideas left on the cutting room floor from the first movie’s ending have become the foundation for this follow-up. “I had a different idea for the ending of M3GAN, which would’ve been interesting but probably not as satisfying. The good thing about doing a sequel is I got the chance to expand on that idea into a longer narrative,” he shared.

Williams, who’s stepped up her role behind the scenes for M3GAN 2.0, acknowledged the challenge of crafting a sequel that delivers for fans without overindulging. “It’s so tempting to deliver on whatever aspect of it was the stickiest the first time around and just pummel it into the ground the second time,” she admitted.

Fans can rest assured the campy horror-comedy tone and viral-worthy moments are intact. Johnstone teased that M3GAN 2.0 will lean into fears about A.I. and its impact on society, saying: “M3GAN is a personification of all of those fears.”

The first M3GAN became a pop culture phenomenon with its mix of snark, scares, and dance moves, making it one of the most memorable horror hits in years. The franchise is now expanding with M3GAN 2.0 and a spinoff, SOULM8TE. Scheduled for release on January 2, 2026, SOULM8TE is described as an erotic thriller about a man who turns to an android for companionship after losing his wife.

M3GAN 2.0 arrives in theaters June 27, 2025, promising to up the ante with more mayhem and deeper social commentary.
