Macaulay Culkin nearly took his “Home Alone” fame to the next level by purchasing the iconic Winnetka, Illinois house where the holiday classic was filmed.
Speaking at a live event at the Rosemont Theater after a screening of the beloved Christmas movie, Culkin revealed his playful plan to turn the house into a “movie fun house.”
“I had half a mind to buy it—just for giggles,” Culkin told the audience, outlining his vision of an interactive Home Alone-themed attraction. His ideas included letting visitors ride a sled down the staircase, attempt the infamous paint can swing, and even try out booby traps inspired by the movie’s infamous showdown with the Wet Bandits. Of course, safety would come first.
Despite the excitement, Culkin admitted via New York Times he couldn’t take on the project. “I got kids. I’m busy, man,” he explained. The former child star, now married to Brenda Song, is the proud father of two sons and has shifted his priorities to family life.
Culkin, who was just nine years old when he filmed Home Alone, has grown fond of the movie over time—especially now that he shares it with his kids. “I watch it through a different lens — I watch it with them. And they have no idea who they’re sitting next to,” he shared, reflecting on his journey from childhood stardom to fatherhood.
The live event was part of Culkin’s “A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin” tour, which combines a theatrical screening of Home Alone with a Q&A session. Fans at the Rosemont stop got an inside look at Culkin’s unique perspective on the franchise and his life post-fame. “It was kind of a curse and a blessing,” he admitted, though he now embraces the role the movie has played in his life.
