Lil Wayne has officially spoken out about Kendrick Lamar’s recent lyrical nod on GNX, and it’s all love from the Young Money icon.

Despite Lamar’s jab-filled battle with Drake, Kendrick’s mention of Lil Wayne had fans divided—was it a subtle diss or a show of respect? Now, Weezy has made it clear he’s taking it in stride.

During an interview on The Skip Bayless Show, Wayne addressed the buzz surrounding Lamar’s line on wacced out murals: “Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down.” Surprisingly, Wayne hadn’t heard the lyric until the show, but after hearing it read back to him, he offered a positive take.

“He’s a fan like I’m a fan,” Wayne explained, downplaying any negative spin. “He saw like everybody else, he saw how much it meant to me. I think that’s all he mean.” Wayne even related to Kendrick’s message, saying, “I understand those words… His hard work is the reason he made it there.”

Wayne’s interpretation lines up with Kendrick’s long-standing admiration for him. The To Pimp a Butterfly rapper previously hailed Weezy as “the greatest” in a 2022 interview with The Coveteur, praising both his music and cultural influence. “Lil Wayne is the greatest. Not only because of his music but also because of the culture he put behind it,” Lamar said at the time. Wayne responded to those compliments on Twitter, calling Kendrick a “real one.”

With Wayne’s gracious response, it’s clear there’s no bad blood between these two titans of hip-hop. In fact, Lamar’s lyric may have only strengthened the mutual respect they share.
