Megan Thee Stallion is taking legal action to stop what she describes as harassment from Tory Lanez, even as he serves a 10-year prison sentence for shooting her. On Tuesday, Megan, whose real name is Megan Pete, filed a petition in Los Angeles Superior Court asking a judge to issue a restraining order against Lanez. She claims he is using third parties to coordinate attacks on her credibility online.
The petition states that Lanez, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, continues to traumatize Megan through “surrogates,” with prison call logs allegedly showing that he is orchestrating these actions from the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi. “Even now, while behind bars, Mr. Peterson shows no signs of stopping,” the petition reads. “Despite being sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting Ms. Pete, Mr. Peterson continues to subject her to repeated trauma and revictimization.”
The filing accuses bloggers acting on Lanez’s behalf of spreading false claims, including allegations that key evidence in the case is missing. One blogger, Elizabeth Milagro Cooper, is specifically named as acting as Lanez’s “puppet and mouthpiece.” Megan is suing Cooper separately, alleging that she has made defamatory claims such as questioning whether Megan was even shot and labeling her a “professional victim.”
Megan’s petition argues that the protective order issued during Lanez’s trial is no longer in effect, leaving a loophole in the system that allows the harassment to continue.
Lanez was convicted in December 2022 on three felony counts, including assault with a semiautomatic firearm, carrying a loaded and unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. He received a 10-year sentence in August 2023 after a judge rejected a motion for a new trial.
The case, which began after Megan testified that Lanez shot at her feet during a 2020 altercation, has ignited widespread discussion about issues like protecting Black women, gender politics in hip-hop, and online harassment. Megan has continued to rise in her career, becoming a Grammy-winning artist with chart-topping hits like “Savage” and “WAP.”
Meanwhile, Lanez’s legal team has not commented on the restraining order request, and a court hearing is scheduled for January 9. Cooper’s attorney, responding to Megan’s separate lawsuit, has described the claims against her as “dubious” but declined to comment on the California petition.
