Sony might have just given fans their first glimpse into the future of gaming with the PlayStation 6—or at least, the tech behind it. While the PS6 hasn’t been officially announced, PlayStation’s Mark Cerny has dropped some major hints about what’s next during a new video breakdown of the PS5 Pro’s hardware.

In a detailed presentation, Cerny dove into how the PS5 Pro pushes boundaries beyond the original PS5, which debuted back in 2020. But the real treat came near the end, when Cerny revealed that Sony is partnering with AMD on a groundbreaking project called “Amethyst.” The collaboration aims to revolutionize gaming with advancements in machine learning and a serious upgrade in graphical fidelity, including massive leaps in ray tracing technology.

Cerny hinted that these innovations could shape the backbone of the PS6, saying, “We’re working on making game graphics richer and expanding what’s possible with machine learning.” Previous reports already suggested Sony struck a deal with AMD earlier this year to power its next-gen hardware, and this latest reveal seems to confirm that the PS6 is quietly starting to take shape.

While this might sound like the future is just around the corner, don’t expect the PS6 to drop anytime soon. The PlayStation 4 had a solid seven-year run before the PS5 launched, so if Sony follows that same pattern, the PS6 could be looking at a 2027 release. Until then, fans will just have to settle for the PS5 Pro and its impressive upgrades.

Years of experience in writing, journalism, and digging exclusive insider info for Ringside News opened the door for a new opportunity for Jenkins. With a history in finance, he broke into the journalism game by writing on blogs and other freelance websites before branching into sports and entertainment news. Being in tune with pop culture doesn't mean it has to make sense, but he tries. Favorite bands include any group from Seattle who formed between 1991 and 1999. 5 Ozzfests under his belt and 12 Warped Tours, but his last concert was a bluegrass AC/DC cover band that was not 100% terrible.
