After months of anticipation, Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre finally dropped their collaborative album Missionary, a sequel to Snoop’s 1993 debut Doggystyle. The project boasts an impressive lineup of guest features, including Method Man, Sting, Jhené Aiko, Jelly Roll, Eminem, and 50 Cent, creating high expectations for its commercial performance. However, the first-week sales projections paint a different picture.
According to HITSDailyDouble, Missionary is expected to move just 36,000 equivalent units in its debut week, likely landing at No. 20 on the Billboard 200. This puts it behind other recent chart-topping releases, making it one of the least commercially successful albums for both Snoop and Dre.
Despite the lukewarm projections, both icons stand firmly behind the project. During a live episode of Drink Champs at ComplexCon earlier this year, Dr. Dre expressed immense pride in their work. “Snoop came in and allowed me to get down the way I get down,” Dre shared. “I feel like this is some of my best work. My mentality for the musicianship and everything that goes into doing this has just advanced so much.”
For fans of Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, Missionary offers a mix of nostalgia and evolution, with Dre’s production showcasing his ever-expanding skills and vision. Whether the sales meet expectations or not, the duo seems more focused on delivering quality music than chasing numbers.
